It is never in vain!
As I (Lambert) reflected on what to share with you today, I was reminded of an experience I had last week at our first evening of worship and prayer with our team here in Rwanda, a new regular event we plan to have throughout 2026.
A Memory Rekindled
The friend who led us in worship selected some hymns in my mother tongue, Kinyarwanda. The time of worship, prayer and teaching was great, but the hymns brought back a vivid memory of life with my late mother, back in 1996-97.
Every night, before bed, she used to make my brother, my sister and I sit around her bed with hymnal books, and we would sing at least two hymns before praying and going to sleep.
Back then, I was not a believer and did not care much about what I was singing. Sometimes I even hated the time of prayer. But a year later I gave my life to Jesus, and fast forward to 2026, there I was singing, praising, and worshiping God with the same hymns.
Seeds That Were Not Wasted
My mom was not there to see it, but my heart filled with gratitude for her efforts and consistency, even when we didn't appreciate it. The seeds she planted in my heart back then were not wasted.
We don't always get to see the outcome of the investments we make in people. We might do our best to pray, mentor, support... and not see any change. As human beings our tendency is to feel like we have been wasting our time and resources. But we're not!
We might not be there to see the impact of our investment, but in God's timing, there will be a harvest.
A Word of Encouragement
Paul put it this way:
"So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless." 1 Corinthians 15:58
A Question for You
What investment did someone make in you that you are reaping today? And is there someone in your life right now who is difficult to invest in?
Don’t give up. Your labor in the Lord is never in vain. If you’d like, share with us — we would be honored to pray with you.
With gratitude and hope,
Lambert & Catherine
